UA Football: Another Subpar Year (2017 Preview Part 2)

Arkansas Football 2017 Preview

Part 2: Predicting Failure

by Chase Gage

Aug 2, 2017

I almost went on another rant.

But I didn’t. Instead, I decided to just analyze the upcoming schedule and give my predictions for each game. Let’s get to it.

Thursday, August 31

Florida A&M Rattlers

  • War Memorial Stadium, Little Rock, AR
  • Win.
  • If we lose, well I don’t even know. I wouldn’t put it past us though (see Louisiana Monroe 2012).
  • 1-1 (0-0)

Saturday, September 9

Texas Christian Horned Frogs

  • Fayetteville, AR
  • Loss.
  • We were lucky to beat them last year. Have we improved much? Not really. Have they? Maybe. This one could be a toss-up, but it’s non-conference, so does it really even matter?
  • 1-1 (0-0)

Saturday, September 16

Bye

  • Loss.
  • Having your bye during week 3 before SEC play has even started is always a loss.
  • 1-1 (0-0)

Saturday, September 23

Texas A&M Aggies

  • AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX
  • Loss.
  • We have lost to A&M every year since 2012. I don’t see that trend ending this year.
  • 1-2 (0-1)

Saturday, September 30

New Mexico State Aggies

  • Fayetteville, AR
  • Win.
  • If AState can dominate the Aggies, that means the Hogs at least have a good chance.
  • 2-2 (0-1)

Saturday, October 8

@ South Carolina Gamecocks

  • Columbia, SC
  • Loss.
  • South Carolina will be a solid contender in the East this year. The Razorbacks wouldn’t even compete in the “easy” East.
  • 2-3 (0-2)

Saturday, October 14

@ Alabama Crimson Tide

  • Tuscaloosa, AL
  • Loss.
  • Do I need an explanation for this one?
  • 2-4 (0-3)

Saturday, October 21

Auburn Tigers

  • Fayetteville, AR
  • Loss.
  • For some reason, we can’t beat Auburn unless it goes into overtime. Do you really think we can force overtime? Last year we only scored 3 on them (compared to 56 points by the Tigers)
  • 2-5 (0-4)

Saturday, October 28

@ Ole Miss Rebels

  • Oxford, MS
  • Win.
  • Ole Miss is one of the only SEC teams we can actually compete with, and with their coaching change on top of possible sanctions, their season may look more dim than ours. Maybe.
  • 3-5 (1-4)

Saturday, November 4

Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (Homecoming)

  • Fayetteville, AR
  • Win.
  • Please, please, please let this be a win. Coastal Carolina will be a threat in the Sun Belt this year, so this is no easy task.
  • 4-5 (1-4)

Saturday, November 11

@ Louisiana State Tigers

  • Baton Rouge, LA
  • Loss.
  • The fact that this game isn’t played on black Friday anymore is a loss in itself. Oh, and LSU is leaps and bounds better than Arkansas.
  • 4-6 (1-5)

Saturday, November 18

Mississippi State Bulldogs

  • Fayetteville, AR
  • Loss.
  • This one is just a gut feeling, honestly. State has been a solid team for the last few years. Expect more of the same from them and from us. That’s a recipe for a loss.
  • 4-7 (1-6)

Friday, November 24

Missouri Tigers

  • Fayetteville, AR
  • Win.
  • I consider this one a toss-up, but I’ll give the Hogs the edge since they’re at home. Hopefully, they won’t blow a 17-point halftime lead this year.
  • 5-7 (2-6)

December/January?

Bowl Game?

  •  Ha. No way, Jose.
  • (Fire Coach Bielema)

Final Record Prediciton:

5-7 (2-6 SEC), Miss Postseason
